There is no exact test for Bipolar Disorder, and no prevention or cure for it. The best way to deal with it in my lifelong experience with it is to find a psychiatrist you develope good communication with(someone who listens when you say "I feel this way, or that way, or I just don't feel 'right'".)and isn't afraid to adjust your medication when you feel it isn't working right for you. Antidepressants take a few weeks to work, and are a hit and miss thing, some work for certain people, but not for others, and vice versa. It may take a couple of tries to find the drug or drugs that sync with your body. And never feel bad about needing medication. Just like any other medical problem, a mental illness is just that--an illness. And unfortunately it's one that we can't just draw some blood and test for it.

The other thing to do is find some sort of therapy, whether it be with a social worker, a private clinic, group therapy, or a psychologist...it is imperative that you find someone professional to talk to that can talk to your psychiatrist if need be(about med adjustments or whatever) and that can give you any advice you need and answer any questions you may have.

Try www.nami.org   It's the national alliance for mental illness. They do great things for those of us with mental illnesses.
