Looking to take a big risk in career change at 47!

I am 47 yrs old and sick of working for corporate america, especially after the downfall of the economy.  I just recently got laid off and the thoughts of looking for another corporate job makes me feel hopeless.  I received a large severance package that would hold me for a good year.  I have always wanted to own a small cafe/bakery and am thinking of taking the plunge and go back to school for a culinary certification.  This will not only include sharping my cooking skills but also the business aspect.  Has anyone changed careers or pursued a dream in mid life and if so, would you share you experience?  If it has been in the culinary field that would be even better to hear your input.  Thanks in advance and the best to everyone out there!

i wish you the best of luck as well because i have seen first hand how people have been on the same job for 20+ years and they know nothing else outside of that company. don't let your age stop you and persue all there is for youKiss

Never bank on staying at one organization for too long.  If you believe you had always wanted to do something different in life besides what you are doing, then pursue your happiness.

There are three main key drivers we all work for:

1) money

2) ego (respect)

3) interest (passion)

Working with the key driver being interest (passion) will only lead yourself to success. read more at: http://www.aspire2work.com/blogs/why-we-work
