That is a good question, and begs for a good explanation. There is a big difference in reading words, and understandings what you just read. So it is most helpful to have some concept of THE MINDSET of the INSPIRED writers of SCRIPTURE (Original Books and Epistles). This having been said, it should come as a big surprise to those that believe in a literal translation that most of The Bible is written in allegories, Metaphors, Parables, Anthropomorphisms or just plain "Physical to Spiritual Parallels". This is what is referred to by Messiah when he said this, "Ears to Hear, and Eyes to See".
MATTHEW 13:9-11 9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
EZEKIEL 12:2 Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a rebellious house.
