A better update checker than filehippo's

I tried filehippo's update checker* and I think it's quite good, but are there better alternatives? My problem with filehippo's checker is that I have Windows 2000 and the update checker gave me a notification about a new version of Paint.net, but the new version only works on XP and Vista.

* an update checker is a program that checks which programs are installed on your computer, connects to the internet and tells you if newer versions are available for your programs.

I don't know of a better update checker, I think File Hippo pretty much took over the market and actually I can understand it, it works very well for most users. I understand the problem you ran into, but Windows 2000 users are becoming almost extinct...
