No doing ab exercises won't stop chest growth. If anything it will compliment your chest growth by helping to speed up your metabolism and produce more anabolic hormones such as testosterone and growth hormone. These are hormones which stimulate protein synthesis and muscle growth.
You need to make sure you are working all your muscle groups and joints to ensure maximum overall muscle growth. Using heavy weights at lower reps and focusing on compound exercises is the key to obtaining the greatest muscle growth and definition in the shortest time. They also work your core so are great for your abs.
