It varies from state to state. Most schools require high school completion, but there are some which demands only 8th grade completion.

It does depend on your state and which cosmetology school you choose, but as a general rule, most states and cosmetology schools require their applicants to be at least 16 years old, and have at least a GED or high school diploma.
