Weight Gain

I have a difficult time with water weight.  My weight can fluctuate as much as 7 pounds within a given day.  Does anyone have any information concerning this problem.  I am 51 years old, in the midst of menopause.  I am very active and exercise everyday for no less that 45 minutes at a moderate to high intensity.  This is not muscle; I know the difference.  I take the herbal compounds, but I wonder if there is an underlying culprit that I need to address.  My blood pressure is normally 110/70 so this is not a problem either.

I wish to be as healthy and active when I get to your age :-)

Most people's weight fluctuates between 3 and 8 pounds in every 24 hours cycle, because we obviously eat and drink during the day.

If you don't retain water (and from what you're saying you're not), I don't think there's any cause for concern. If you have Edema, you should consult your doctor (but again, it really doesn't sound like it).

Try to weigh yourself only once a day, at the same time, preferably once every few days - to get a clearer picture of your real weight and trend.

When reducing calories, the body needs to rely more on energy within the body and thus breaks down protein and carbohydrate for metabolism. When these nutrients are metabolized water is released. Fat stores do supply a little of the energy but at first a good proportion comes from protein and the limited stores of carbohydrates within the cells. I would suggest the you consume high quality protein at every meal, limit your carb intake, slowly/gradually reduce portion sizes and calorie intake (do not crash diet or lose more than 2lbs a week), and train/exercise for strength. Good luck!

ITS MENOPAUSE AND WE ARE DOOMED.  I am so tired of it myself.  Nothing works for long. Just have to stop eating anything with salt which is impossible.  I have ruled out everything possible with the doctors.  SO i am stuck.
