First batch of iPhones

How many iPhones are being sold in the first batch? How many people will be able to buy the iphone tomorrow, and how long will those who didn't sleep by AT&T stores have to wait to buy one?

They say Apple is planning for a million of them in the 1st year.

They hired 2000 temp employees for the AT&T stores and the Apple stores, to assist in handling the huge interest in this product

I guess like most new successful product introductions (see Wii), there will be shortage in the first couple of months, and people will have to pre-order. this helps the manufacturer to gauge the levels of demand.

Apple is very hush hush about these sort of things, so I don't really know if they are going to sell out right away- but I can tell u this much .... if AT&T doesn't have service in your area your pretty much screwed, they don't have service in my area ... so getting an iPhone is pretty much mute for me!
