I was in Birmingham (UK) at the weekend and didn't have a clue which bars to hit...Stayed in Brindley place, where else could I have gone?
The Brasshouse isn't too bad. Nice place, cool crowd, you can sit outside and hang.
The Gough Arms Is also nice, and offers a jukebox and karaoke nights, so if you're into music while drinking, it's not a bad choice.
Whenever I plan to go somewhere that I don't know very well, I always do a bit of online research. There's plenty of good local directories that can help and We Love Local is particularly good because it features real customer reviews of local businesses. Including bars, cafes, pubs and clubs. Check out the links below for more info.

Hope this helps in future.
