NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO. We are NOWHERE NEAR the end of the world. We may be flirting with disaster in the way we treat our environment, but the end of the world is not at hand. EMPHATICALLY NO.
Charlatans and sensationalists and fear-mongers are spreading a sick message that is exciting to listen to, but it is simply not true. The truth is boring and hard to learn, not flashy and easy like the doomsayers tell it. They are like the stories of bogeymen and ghosts and monsters from childhood, except for adults.
If this were a perfect world, with no wars, no disasters, no storms, no famines, no accidents or murder of any kind, over 100,000 people would have to die of old age every day if the average lifespan was over a hundred years old. No matter what happens, there are so many people on this planet, 6,600,000,000 and growing, that millions will die every year no matter what we do.
It is very easy to sensationalize any event, or group of related or unrelated events and say the world is in trouble. "It is time for God to punish the wicked" kind of thing. God will do what God wants, and if we believe in a God that would destroy the world on purpose, hurting the good with the bad, then I think that says something about the person doing the believing. My God loves me and would not want me to suffer unnecessarily, and to suffer necessary ills with dignity.
