What are the good and bad of Sikhism?

What are the distinctives of the Sikh religion?  What are the dark sides of it, in teaching and in history?

I wouldn't say there's something fundametally bad about Sikhism. As far as I understand it all the violence that Sikhs are involved in is political in nature. Here's a short article that sums it up nicely.

I must say that I'm not sure I understand your question, though.

By the bad, what I mean is

  • what teachings are controversial or may seem to be judgmental or against human rights?
  • historically, what violence has been done associated with the movement?
  • what does extremism look like in this faith?

A good website to discuss this would be to go to www.sikhphilosophy.net.

None of the teaching are controversial, in fact, equality for women, charity services and red cross(a lil different in sikhi) were actually started by sikhs along time before "westerners" started them. Also, racism and dicrimination of castes were among these.. like  i said go to that website

There is a ton of violence but the cause (when you research it) is very unique.

The violence was against the wrog doings of people. Again... i point to that site

Extremeism in this faith is actually the best way to live becuase the exteremeism requires you to think logically so i wowuldnt say there is any extremism

sikhism is a very good religion. a philiosipher said if there was a world war 3 the only religion left will be sikhism. in reply your question violence was only used in sikhism in history to help others live a better life in the terms of discrimination. sikhs belive that they should protect the weak and this was shown when the sikhs protected and fought the battles for hindhus as they were being discriminated by the mughals. Sikhs also fought because there was a bounty against every sikh head implied by the mughals as these sikhs did not want to convert to islam. sikhs were tortured and killed inhumaily. Finalally Guru Gobind Singh JI and his army of sikh warriors fought the mughals and drove them back to afganistan. from then on the sikhs have been very peaceful and believe in equality and are very strong believers of stoping poverty around the world

in the last 25years sikhs have been tourture and killed in indian beacuse of the 1984 events (if you wish to know about this more reply) which led to the holy shrine for sikhs(golden temple) being heavily damaged and leading to riots happening all over india which led sikhs being killed.

Please reply and i will tell you more about the events of 1984 ( a major event in sikhism in recent years)

sikhs believe in equality of all humans regardless of religion, gender or race. sikhs believe in protecting profound principles of truth justice and freedom for all humans regardless of background.  sikhism is the oonly religion that has fought for the rights of other people e.g hinduism.  Today sikhism has been greatly diluted due to the indian goverments attempt of destroying the siikh religion.

Sikhs do not set up missionaries or believe that the entire world shoul be sikh, as they see this as a waste of time, they believe in showing respect and understanding to others and getting on with life.  sikhs want the best for man kind. during the 1800's the british took over all of india except punjab- which was under sikh rule.  the sikh king - maha raja ranjit singh brought muslim hindus christians buddists together, he understood all religions and publically showed respect to them and made all religious communities happy.

sikhs are sometimes confused with muslims. religious sikhs wear a particular style of turban and have a uncut flowing beard. All sikhs religious and non religious wear a metal bangle called the kara.

sikhs who only make up 1.5% of indias population fought of islamic invaders, somethink that the hindu majority was unable to do.

The hindu hill rajas also joined forces with the islamic kings and tried to wipe sikhism out-

the ideal sikh is a saint soldier.  first a saint-  to regard all of man kind as 1 human race and respect people regalrdless of background or religion.   Then a soldier- to protect the human rights of other people.

political power is important for all sikhs- it is the miri piri concept. Sikhs are not hippies- peace love and happiness.  Sikhs belive in spritual power and political power.

believe and worship one GOD. Equality to all, equality to men and women, respect for all religions.  Worship, meditate, serve , work, earn, share.  Sikhism is a religion taking towards completeness Spiritually and physically.  Allows use of power, force, strength when all other means fail to protect and defend.  Believes in education, educating and many other goodnesses.

Since the begining of the Sikhism many have tried to wipe off this religion from this world because they are afraid of such strong values, equality, and goodnesses that are present in this most modern religion of the world that is based on truth and truth only
