I dont think its teething. Your child may have sensitive gums that respond to the cold of the teething ring. This may also be a case of colic. The ring occupies the child so that their minds arent on the pain in their bellies. Try some Mylicon drops ( simethicone - gets rid of gas is baby's tummy ) and check to see if they may have a reaction to the formula they are drinking.  Good luck!
