Turn off the television and teach your children how to think.

Not any more - my kids are 28, 24 and 20!

But I used to - and I highly recommend it.

Just get a food mill - there is a little non-electric model you can get (it even comes with a carrying case nowadays) - and grind up any and everything.

Start with plain foods (veggies, fruits) and progress to blends, meats, etcetera after your baby is older.

Always be mindful of the additives - babies don't need extra salt, sugar or preservatives - and introduce foods one at a time (and about a week apart) so as to reduce the possibility of food allergies and identify any food sensitivities from their onset.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are optimum, but you can use frozen or canned if need be - just read the labels first.

Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional!

My sister recently came up with her own homemade baby foods. They are absolutely amazing and the babies love them. All you really need is some squash, spaghetti squash, cinnimon and parmesan cheese( not the powdered stuff but grated low fat). For the cinnimon squash, use green or yellow suash. About two cup of water to half lb of squash, boil untill very soft and strain. Use your food processor to puree the cooked squash.  Add a tablespoon of cinniomon and tsp of sugar, blend again. For the Spagheti squash and parm, cook the squash the same way only using about a half cup of water to one cup of s. squash. Simmer untill water is reduced a little more than half and add parmesean cheese, while still simmering. for easy storage, use ice cube trays and freeze the foods. Baby will love them! Its an easy way to get baby the vegetables they need with out buying the flavorless and expensive baby food in stored, and you know exactly what goes into it!

I usually prepare soft foods for my niece such as a mashed potato and rice porridge. Also, I make sure that when he sleeps at night, an organic baby sleep sack is wrapped comfortably around him. It gives security, protection, and warmth. I also put the lights off so that at an early age, he would get used to it.

How Can I Get Rid of This Yeast Infection?

QUESTION Dear Midwife, I have had a yeast infection throughout my entire pregnancy. My doctor has tested me for STD's and all are negative. He has prescribed metro gel to me. I have used this every few months. I am now on my 32 week and am using this prescription every other week. Is there something stronger I can use or something I can change or do different to help? ANSWER Metrogel will not cure a yeast infection, it's for a bacterial infection and can actually cause a yeast infection. Have you tried Diflucan (the yeast pill)? There are also over the counter yeast preparations and a heavy duty vaginal cream (Terazol) that might be appropriate. If all these fail, borax washes help some women and the yeast can be cultured to see what will kill it. Other things you can do for yourself include eliminating sugars as much as possible (no soda or juices for sure, only two fruits and two dairies per day) and eating more vegetables and proteins.
