children are susceptible to may illness especially viruses ( the cause of the common cold, and there are over 200 viruses that cause it) because their immune systems haven't built resistance to them yet. This is done by exposure to others that also have a cold. As we are exposed , we build antibodies against it and will no longer get that type of cold. 1 down 199 to go. It is helpful to teach children to wash their hands thoroughly. This is done under warm water lathering up to the wrists and under fingernails and washing for 2 minutes. Teach them that prior to washing their hands to have a napkin or other drying aid in their pockets and to use it to turn the faucet off and to open the bathroom door as they exit. Teach children not to share things that go into the mouth, ex. drinks from straws, sharing cups, soft drinks, toothbrushes, forks, spoons etc. If someone coughs or sneezes in the surroundings to cover their nose and mouth with a bent elbow. This is how the vast majority of viruses are spread viruses are spread from the droplets of a sneeze and/or cough. Lastly, Teach them when they cough and/or sneeze to do it in a bent elbow to help protect their fellow man. I have confined this information to viruses that cause the common cold, but the precautions suggested go a long way in helping to prevent airborne and contact illness.
