Hi, I went to get my oil changed the other day and the tech told me that I needed a front alignment, brakes and tires replaced. Can someone tell me if its best to do this at the dealership or a

t a local mechanic eg. Mobil or shell station both in terms of price and quality? Also, any ideas on what I should expect to pay for all of this?

Thanks!

I'll search, while you Cool wait.

I've had these procedures done as often as the mechanic recommends that I come back in after I have driven a certain amount of miles on my car.  Hhowever I have never gone to a dealer for tires, brakes, or an alignment.  Any mechanic can do this and the price depends upon the size of your tires that you need.  Do you need all four?  Well call around to places such as Midas, Goodyear, and Firestone.  Tell them you would like the price for an oil change on a (for instance) 2009 Mitsubishi LX, and you are in need of four tires (for instance) size 18 as well as an alignment.  You will get quality service at all three businesses, but the cheapest price is what you are trying to obtain, considering each business sometimes offers a sale on tires.  Tires could cost as low as $70 each on the average for small tires and go up as high as $100 plus for each bigger tire.  The oil change and alignment will probably range under $100.  So get your three price quotes and go from there.  When you do go to the business of your choice, the mechanic will place a sticker or something on your dash or windshield to alert you for your next service change.  While you are there, do not forget to have them check your windshield wipers too.  Be safe and always be prepared.

I agree with Femalesoldier. I know a thing or two about these things and I've never gone to the dealership (I have custom stuff on my car that may void the warranty). Find a recommended mechanic that you trust and you'll be go to go.

I would take the car to a locate SEARS store sometimes they have a 10% off deal or even 15% if you use a SEARS card - they stand behind their work and if you buy the road-hazard warr. the back the tires (rotate & balance for life and free flat repair and replacement). i've done this in the past and i has worked for me. GOOD LUCK !!!
