my 1999 VW Beetle keeps revving up and down by itself , after it warms up.....what can be causing this???
it sounds like a vacum leak under the hood lisen for a hissing sound like an air leak or just check all the hoses at the back of the engine to see if any have holes or have collasped from age...
Not a Jennyus.
If the engine rpm is rangeing over a couple of thousand it's very possible it's the computer or the throttle positioner which as become defective. If less of a fluctuation in rpm it could be as Masterflagger has stated in his answer. If you can't find a disconnected or broken/burned vacuum line, you will probably have to refer to your mechanic. Sometimes computer problems are not traced as easily by independent garages as by the dealership although independents are getting better at such thru experience since every car built in the last several years is computerized.
