I'd like to attach my home line to my computer

I'd like to attach my home line to my computer. I'm looking for a software which allows easy dial& answer, unlike windows hyperterminal with its clumsy interface. Cheers, Mick.

If I understand the scenario correctly, you wish to [optionally] forgo the use of any ISP, and connect to individual machines/users directly via modem [à la CrossTalk, etc.] as in the pre-Internet days of DOS, or perhaps to a mainframe or other host, using terminal emulation...

Not quite sure what you're goin' for here, but if you think HyperTerminal is clumsy, consider that Dial Engine Pro lacks even a graphical UI. Unfortunately, I'm at a loss for recommending anything along the lines you're looking for. Hopefully someone will be able to come forward with some appropriate software for Mick....

Not quite, I was actually looking for a way to use the computer as a regular telephone via the modem. It has nothing to do with the internet which I'm using an DSL bandwidth and a network card.

As a "regular telephone"..? I'm familiar with the use of Skype [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skype ] or even Asterisk [

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asterisk_PBX ]... Not sure what is meant here by "regular telephone"....
