Should I ask my boss for a raise?

I just found out that a co-worker got a raise. I have not been given a salary increase in a while now and feel that I am a much more dedicated worker than my co-worker. I know that it is not a competition, but I still do not feel that it is just, especially when I have gently suggested in the past that I think that I am underpaid. I am even working through part of my Christmas break to show how dedicated i am to the company. Should I confront my boss and request a raise?

It is always best not to keep things to yourself because they will often escape when you least expect and want it. By keeping it in you will build resentment against your coworker and against your boss. Therefore, without mentioning your coworker, you should speak to your boss and remind him of your dedication and your achievements and then request the raise. By bringing up your coworker to your boss you are in essence questioning his judgment. Speak to him in a calm and convincing manner and I hope you succeed in convincing him.
