Dept. Of motor vehicle, verterans memorial highway hauppauge, ny i hit a empty car in a parking lot and did not realize i did so thought i hit a divide bar cover with green trees and bushes which is what i saw when i looked over my right shoulder i would have not left the scene if i knew it was a car i have insurance and i had seen people in the lot what had i to gain by leaving what is going to happen to me i have to appear a police man came to my home any gave me a ticket for living the scene violation of seciotn 600 subd. 1a please advise me i have been so upset i didn't sllep all night my damage is under 500. Dollars

What you thought is not an issue because by your own admission you hit the car and left the scene. I appreciate your pain but you can either pay the ticket or go to court and argue your case.

Ever hear of closing the barn door after all the horses escaped. If you hit anything hard enough to cause $500.00 damage to your vehicle there was reportable damage on whatever you hit. First you notify your insurance company. Get a lawyer. Probably be cheaper than your insurance will cost you in the future, even if you change companies. Get the other person's info, name address phone mumber as soon as possible. DO NOT CONTACT THEM. Give this to your insurance company. They are as much involved in this as you are. They can pay any claims even if you tell them not to.  You are liable. With people like they are today don't be surprised if i n court the owner says they were in the back asleep and you caused a great deal of medical problems. It can happen.  Rely on your insurance company. This is why it is best not to switch to another insurer to save a few bucks. I have been  using Allstate since 1964, this does carry some weight when I ask for help.  Whenever I see a cheaper rate I divide the amount by 365. Changes the picture.  

Hope I've helped some.  Most of this is from my own experience. Alot by working next to my insurance agent for years.
