I see this guy on television and he seems pretty informative.

Love is the battery of life....

Hi,
I have a garden and love gardening.  Several tips:
1.  Be large in providing compost.
2.  Don't hesitate to try (try try and
try..... soon you'll find that some
"well known rules" do not work...
3.  "Sunny places" "Half shade" is
very different from 1 place (region
     (country, state) to the other.
4.  Best is to create big "patches" (not
     to work in singles).
5.  Always remember that one can kill
a plant in 2 ways: Too much water
     or too less water.....
6.  Rely on your own seeds (the best !).
7.  Even in a small garden there are
     better places than others (probably
microclimate).  I get great flowers in
1 place and a meter next to it "poor"
     small flowers (identical conditions).
Best regards,

In addition to all these great answers, I invite you to check out www.gardenerd.com.  Tons of tips and tidbits.  You can ask a question directly to the Gardenerd (that's me) and it gets answered on the weekly blog.

Don't be afraid to get started.  The best way to learn how to garden is to just do it, as they say.  You'll learn how your soil and climate respond to growing vegetables over time, and you'll learn how to tweak things so they grow better.  Plant a seed according to package directions, give it lots of compost and enough water and see how it goes.

My favorite personal tip is how to use a shovel properly.

Put the point of the shovel in front of your foot.  Lean the handle forward away from you so that the shovel blade is perpendicular to the ground.  Step on the blade, pushing it into the ground.  Step back and pull the handle back towards you, and the dirt clod will pop up almost effortlessly.
