Why do americans call themselves christians and do not believe God's word

It isn't really too hard to understand. Just because a person is Christian doesn't mean they are a good Christian, in fact most are not. Just because someone is of any religion doesn't mean that they practice it, or believe in all of the ideas.

Most Americans do BELIEVE and call themselves Christians. They will not deny Christ when asked.  Because they do not practice their religion does not mean they are not Christians.   In a crisis, they turn to the Lord and prayer even when they have not done so in many years.   

I understand and can relate to other's replies, but what first struck me as a logical answer is that like everything else... Marriage, children, a house and car, debt, people just do what everyone else does, whether their heart is really in it or not.

There are many lazy and blind "followers" who are irresponsible and have no accountability, which explains so much of the anger in our world today. Believe me, when so many end up in hell, all that anger and hypocrisy we have to contend with here in the world today will be at God... never ourselves.

Heaven help us.

In Jeremiah People were still under the Law....We are no longer under the Law, but under the Grace of God.   Christians do still believe Gods' Word. I believe that we are under that "great falling away" that is to take place in the latter days . That's why we are seeing such a loss of morals among some Christians.  Remember, going to church won't make you a christian any more that going to the barn will make you a cow.........

The label of anything that a person subscribes to means nothing unless the one who chooses to do his best to follow its teachings. I can call myself a Boy Scout, but unless I am doing my best to do my duty, etc., then I am not really a BS.

Show me a Tennessee Titan fan that does not go to games, watch games, buy a season ticket, scream and yell his support for the Titans, put a bumper sticker on his truck, talk to his friends about how great his team is and I'll show you------------------ Hmmm? Wait! Bad example. Let me get beck to you on that.

It is sad, but the application of the Christian name to one's self costs nothing and demands less in America today. But the price could be going up in the near future.

Because so many are deceived!!  They want to "have their cake and eat it too".  Nobody wants to follow "the straight and narrow".  So many believe all they have to do is say sorry, some don't even do that. America is a nation without God, yet, everbody thinks they have Him. One is either a Christian or they are a sinner, it's that simple.  Satan wants everyone to believe they can be a "bad" Christian, or just a luke-warm Christian and that is fine. There is only one way to Heaven, and hardly anybody knows the truth anymore.  Nobody reads the Bible or LIVES by the Word anymore. They have found their own way, and you can't tell them the truth!!

The American people in general think we are a Christian nation. In polls when ask the question if we believe in God, we say we do. Many of them don't support  a church, but they believe. Our constitution and laws were all founded on Christian principals. So they think that makes us Christian. Let's leave the judgement to God.

There are many good followers of Jesus who pray for this country and its leadership every day. To the degree that God has not pronounced judgement on us, I give a lot of credit to those people. They ask God to bless this nation and to preserve it and God does. He is a merciful God.  In God's own time He may give up on America, but i think we have a mission to fulfill in this world. Even this world will finally end. Where will you go then?

lots of good answers and i just wanted to say,  it doesn,t matter to people if you are a christian  or  not,  some say so and try to make you feel guilty if you don't go to the Lords house everyday or every sunday in your fancy outfit ( which God doesn't care if your clothes came hand me down's from people or you bought them from Macy's,,,,,,if your clean inside and out side is what matters and people need to stop trying to impress other people with false words and actions  and be thru to the one that matters..The Lord  and theirself.  that's between you and God and Jesus and you will know if your right or wrong in what your doing or saying or where you go & do, just listen to God and yu will be ok....be a follower,  of God and Jesus,  and the word of God ----not of man and you will be o.k.

it's up to God to judge,  not us....it's a sad world sometimes,
