Answer 1 out of 1

A:

As one of four daughters (late) alcoholic father and a mother who put up with him for God Know Why for 23 years I can only tell you that staying together to "keep the family together" is not what happens.  I am 59 years old and still live with the awful memories of a tension-filled home life with a home full of unhappy people.  (my sisters and I then and now refer to it as 7 Rooms of Gloom). Please consider either seeing a counselor for both of you or for YOURSELF to resolve this.  Or, depending on your financial staus, trips to local Al-Anon meetings (family members of alcoholics), may help you deal with this and come to a resolution.  Best of luck.

Have you tried ACOA (Adult Children of Alcoholics)?  They help you to see that it's not your fault, that you have (had) no control of your father's drinking.
