This has happened to my daughter and I quite often, I am 59 she is 42. I smile and she dosent. You know some people are just bad judges of age. Some time I have thought that maybe they actually thought I was her grandma and just couldnt think of any thing else to say. So dont worry its all good.

Smile, it's contagious!

Perhaps they are paying a compliment to your mother by saying she looks a lot younger than 73 and not that you look much older than 40ish.  Either way, DOES IT REALLY MATTER how old both of you are?   The only time it mattered to me was when I was in a hurry to get the senior discount.  Now that I have it, I wish it hadn't happened so soon.

Yesterday's gone and Today is going fast, Tomorrow is all we have, Until it to has passed

A lot of it has to do with attitude. And the way you dress and act. If you dress and act old you will be seen as old, if you look and act young, you will be seen as young. How you wear your hair has everything to do with how old or young you look. How heavy or thin you are also plays a big role. Excerising and eating healthy, staying thin and active will make you look years younger then you actually are. Letting yourself go and not taking pride in your appearance will add years to your age. There are many variables that can add or detract to age, it's all in what you choose.
