I have a 9 month old rottie that needs to be spayed. Is it safe to do so at this age?

Absolutely. As long as he is asleep.

I know of no problems with spaying at this age. Be careful of the diet after the procedure. Neutered dogs tend to put on weight. Your dog will be more docile and in all likelihood, a more pleasant companion.

Dogs can be Neutered from 6 months old. as JayR said be careful of his diet because dogs do tend to put weight on but he shall be much calmer and happier once he has been done.
