You can also help teach them color and style coordination at a much younger age by letting them take part in choosing the clothes that you purchase. Make them feel good by letting them pick the colors or patterns they like and offer them advice if things just don't blend.
I also agree with Music's answer and that is a great age along with the parents final approval.
