YEDDAI PETITION TO END HARASSMENT We, the undersigned Yeddai, hereby publicly petition Yedda.com to allow us to protect ourselves from cyber-stalking and public harassment. We insist that certain changes be made to the site: 1) People posting questions will have the ability to delete all responses at their discretion. 2) People answering questions will have the ability to delete any replies directed at them at their discretion. 3) The thumbs ranking system will be overhauled in one or more of several ways: a) Only the person asking the question can apply thumbs up or down. b) All thumbs down must be accompanied by a reason posted to the moderator. c) Abolishment of the thumbs rating system altogether. If no progress is made in meeting our demands by March 15, 2009, we will cease contact with the site. Signers, please keep your remarks brief. I agree with what fifthbeatle said. The thumbs are the least important reason why I am on Yedda. I joined Yedda to share knowledge, learn, and to be part of a social network. It's too bad that a few people are trying to ruin Yedda, but I feel that are many more people that make Yedda an interesting place to discuss ideas from all different viewpoints in a civilized manner.

I think it's about time for the Yedda staff to do something about this harrassment and cyber-stalking. This used to be the best site before this happened. I agree with morethan1 for Yedda to terminate accounts of people who personally attack other Yedda members.
They have this part wherein you can report abuse but most of the time nobody paid attention to the complaint. I just hope that we'll have Yedda back the way it was, free from verbal abuse and harrassment.

While I agree that something needs to be done, I am not sure that I agree with all that you have put in your petition.
Speaking only for myself, I believe we are up against the very touchy subject of censorship here. Who gets censored, why and what for. Who among us is so very balanced, detached and fair as to make an unbiased decision about what should stay and what should go especially if it is our question that is being answered? As most of us are aware from our history lessons, at the point where full censorship takes hold and becomes "law", very unhealthy events take place in the wake. I think the only set- in- stone deletion should occur when someone clearly attacks someone personally for any reason. Perimeters about what constitute an attack would have to be clearly defined. I think that, for the most part, rather than make laws, Yedda management needs to take more responsibility for attending to complaints from the community on a case to case basis. One law fits all is not the way to go here. All of this that we are talking about is very difficult stuff to deal with.
Yedda is not an island. What we see occuring here is a microcosm of what occurs in the world at large. Human beings are human beings. We have a unique opportunity here to create a model for something that would be new, compassionate and ethical. It should not be built on hurt feelings and bad attitudes- ours or anyone elses. If we consider ourselves "helpers", each of us is ethically bound not only to assist others, but, to do the personal work necessary to heal our own wounds and continue to grow.

I like this; I would rather help fix this, then walk out. I think that we need a ratings system, in the event that someone troubled asks us a question from the heart; and it helps them evaluate the responses. Take away the "thumbs down", or set up a counsel of members who can respond in a mature manner; to review, and input on responses.
