Xanax and side effects

Does anyone have any experience with taking Xanax? My doctor has suggested putting me on the drug but I'm worried about side effects, specifically weight gain.  Also, what is the drug specifically used to treat anyways? Thanks.

Live life to the fullest. 

Xanax is used to treat different types of anxiety. Most side effects subside after a while, and it important to give the medication a chance for at least a few weeks before switching to something else.

The most common side effects are drowsiness and light headedness, though some patients also report headaches, confusion and insomnia. Both weight gain and weight loss were listed as possible side effects as well, so I guess it all depends on your eating/exercising habits. You can read more about what to expect here.

it is good meds.take doctors orders perscribed.

I have panic attacks and xanax has been a life saver for me.  I only take it when I start to feel an attack so I don't use it daily.  It has been a miracle drug for me.  I have taken it for about 25 years.

I also found it to be a miracle drug. I take 1/2 of a .25 mg tablet  in the morning each day....no drowsiness. Not even a hint of a panic attack when I am on it.   I have been taking it on and off for 22 yrs.

I am 50 year old male type A personality in sales. I have been taking xanax for 10 years.

I get one script per year 50 tabs (.5) with three refills. That will last 1 yr. I find them very relaxing during certain business situations. I am more relaxed, focussed and calm.

While on the move you I do not notice any down side. Although once at home and relaxing I do nod out often. No other side effects. Normal weight and no insomnia

yes it makes you nervous, lose weight and edgy, or it did me anyway, but it may differ amoung everyone who takes it to depend on how it affects you.
