Answer 1 out of 1

A:

No there should be no danger to the workers. For lead (or other materials) to become radioactive it requires neutron activation or high energy photon activation. Since it was an x-ray room, there would be no primary production of neutrons to activate the lead and the photons would not have enough energy or intensity to activate Pb-204 by the [gamma,n] reaction. Lead 204 is in such small isotopic concentration (1.4%) of natural lead that even if a small percent of Pb-204 was by chance activated to produce Pb-203 it would be negligible; Pb-203 has a short half life of 51 hours so within 2 weeks it would have effectivley all decayed away while producing only few low energy x-rays easily attenuated by surrounding materials.
