I think this will not take a long time for your kids to use the swimming pool, as well as it cannot hurt your pool liners . Just take note to store your pool chemicals out of direct sunlight to prevent breakdown by UV rays. Scale and corrosive conditions occur when pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness and dissolved solids are out of balance. Frequent testing can help prevent these problems before they get out of hand. Store pool chemicals out of the reach of children in sealed containers.
See http://www.splashandrelax.co.uk/Buyer_Guide/pool-water-guide they have some very good guides on how to fix this and how not to get back into the same mess :)
Some very good advice and easy to follow guides on your pools water, and they cove a whole range of things in the three guides they have listed on this page.
I think they also have some links to more information on water safety / cleaning etc in the footer links of that page I have linked you to.
Good luck and just do as the specialists say and your pool will be fine in no time mate :)
