The nice thing about being a writer is that you can work anywhere. I used to be freelance writer and I loved the independence of working from home. The link given by Mike above is a good start. Just utilize Google in your search and I am pretty sure you will get a lot of hits when you search under freelance writing/work from home writer.
You can visit following site: Write and Earn
I am somewhat in the same position as yourself. I've had luck on the oDesk.com site. There are positions available all the time.

Do you want to write or work? If you mean write, like take Surveys, be careul. I almost signed up to do surveys for different companies, I thought. I got almost through picking a company or two to work for when I started reading about them. They would have you work for prizes and othe incentives but no cash except for the $4.00 bonus they would give you to start. So if I couldn't make money I didn't want the other, I went off and didn't hit Submit. Lo and behold I have gotten so many e-mail trying to get me to continue when I have made it clear this is not for me.Be very careful, or it will cost you money to join these things although they start their pitch by saying it doesn't. If it sounds too good, it probably is.

You can also go to work at home forums. I've seen job postings there. An advice, when looking for a home based job, avoid companies that require fee or payment. You should not be required to invest any single amount in order to get hired. Many legitimate online companies would hire you without asking for any initial fee to start the job. Always do research about the company’s background before submitting your application to a potential employer.
