As in any creative area it is very difficult to earn money from writing. You could pursue another career and write as a hobby or you could take on other forms of writing and wait until you get an idea. These could be journalism, technical writing, advertising copy writing. One of the best way to get ideas for a story is to talk to many people. Some have had exciting lives.
