Writer's Software Programs -

I'm looking for a Writer's Software program, preferably free, that will include, among other things, spell check, word count, product support, copy or download to disk or flash drive plus all the other good features of a well designed writers software program. I was trying to use Microsoft wordpad but that left a lot to be desired. I can write my stories on wordpad but I can't copy them or download to disk or flash drive. When I save them they go into Microsoft office word and once there in I can't get them back out again....unless I want to buy the office program for about $300.00. So, all the writers out there, what information can you give me?

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.

Try Open Office. It's about the best free software.

Laugh more: tears cloud one's vision.

If you want to write professionally, do as we professionals do: use Microsoft Office Word, or Microsoft Publisher.  Any lesser software marks you off the list as "non professional."

"Shareware" and "Freeware" are the kiss of death to a budding writer: once it gets around to assorted editors that you are so sloppy and unprofessional that you will not invest in your career, then you will not invest your time and effort into professional research, either.

They have seen it before, time and again.  Sloppy leftists writing sloppy copy for sloppy fees.  None of that slop sells, and they are getting tired of putting more slush in the slush pile.

Writing is not a career that leftists actively pursue.  They wind up driving tour buses or working at McDonald's because they are ignorant of financial planning.

We working writers live on chicken today and feathers tomorrow, so we know the value of saving for the future -- which of course, "Smacks of capitalism" to leftist liberals.

I realize that repeated publication with major national magazines and 28 novels sold in the last fifteen years makes me what leftists call, "A stereotypical rightist hack," but it pays the bills and puts fun things to read into the market.  Boring leftists never measure up, so fine, stay with shareware.

Open Office or Google Writer. Both are free. Google writer works well with your Gmail account.
