Wouldn't a law with some real consequences do more than giving up the very freedoms so many have died for?

I think that the answer here is not giving up any of our Constitutional Rights, but focus our efforts on passing stiffer laws and penalties for those who choose to break these laws. Unlike other countries we lack the backbone to pass laws with such dire consequences that contain more than a fine and jail time for even first time offenses. Don't you think that might save more lives than turning this Country into a police state.  It's time we dealt with the real problem and get a backbone instead of trampling on the very freedoms so many have died to protect. I'm surprised that our Chief Justice didn't take that lead, maybe he's the wrong man for the job.

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, Establish Justice,; insure domestic Tranquility, to provide for the common defense, to promote the general Welare, and to Secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and to our Posterity, do ordain and establish the Constitution of the United States of America.

As an ex-military man, 1957-61, I do feel that the extreme right in this country is causing many problems. When you read some posts on this site, condemning Obama who has only served in office less than a year, I begin to question "What do they expect?" Bush almost destroyed this country and if anyone is to blame, it is the Bush Administration and not Obama. Truly I belive a lot of the anger of the far right is that we now have a Black man sitting in the White House. Whether that be the reasons for their hatred and mocking, I am not quite sure. But what I do know is after reading those posts, on this site, it is something terribly wrong with those people. Michael Joel Held

Cool Equal justice for All

The law works but the system needs changed, We all abide by the law but sometime it failes us. The same with the goverment. God bless the USA, Brign our troops HOME safely, To the men who did not get the credit they deserve, MAY GOD WATCH OVER OUR SERVICE MEN.

Yes we dont need new laws lets enforce the ones we have now and make thes judges impose a real sentiance on them not a slap on the hand and say be a good boy or girl. Its not up to the Supreme Court to do it that where the judges on the local leval come in and do there jobs we elected them to do. And no to a police state as that gives the goverment more control over our lives.

A Law Question and Answer Site

There is a fine line between protection from crime and protection of rights. The Patriot Act for instance leaned far more towards taking away constitutional rights.
