Worst President

Who was the worst United States president in the twentieth century?

In my opinion, this title belongs to Jimmy Carter. His worst action was to allow Iran to become such an evil state.

Without taking an opinion, i think the president most widely regarded as the worst in the 20th centaury is Richard Nixon. Even though he made some several positive moves like achieving normalization with China and withdrawing from Vietnam, it seems he is mostly remembered for the watergate scandal and shameful resignation.

Warren G. Harding is usually regarded as the worst America president. Read about him a bit, it's a good laugh.

Sorry... I agree with Zapatta... no doubt...Nixon sucked the worst. He degraded the presidential institution. He dealt with Watergate very poorly.

I think LBJ had more to do with pulling out of nam, even though Nixon actually did it.

Since George W. Bush is technically a president of the 21st century, I would have to say Richard Nixon.  The Harding era is regarded as an unsuccessful presidency, however, this is largely due to scandals involving members of his cabinet, rather than him himself.  He was not an especially good or bad president.  Nixon, on the other hand, was involved in one of the worst scandals in history, and topped it off with poor handling of information and press relations.  He also made many poor decisions in the White House, and abused his power quite often.  In addition to all this, he made many unsuccessful appointments for various offices, including 4 unsuccessful appointments to the Supreme Court, 2 of which the American Bar Association deemed "highly unqualified."

"What you think you know may not be so."

Is a president "worse" or "worst" because he was incapable of handling the demands of the office - or because he presented a clear and present danger to the Republic and its Constitution?

Carter and Ford were clearly in over their heads. To be fair, they were presented with formidable inflation and unprecedented energy shortages. Worse.

Nixon was the last liberal president. Check out the accomplishments of his administration. He had a serious psychological disorder which set him up for his posse to do him in. Worst.

From what I know of Harding's inclinations they were somewhat progressive. Some of his appointees went to prison. Harding, for all we know was honest with the people's money. I don't think ANY 20th Century presidents screwed around as much as JFK and Woodrow Wilson.

The worst president EVER was Franklin Pierce - but Generalissimo W. Bunnypants probably has him beat. Pierce had an excuse - he was a drunk...
