What kind of derogatory credit mark occurs if a credit card company offers to let me pay an amount less than actually owed? Is it a good idea to accept the creditor's offer to make that sort of payoff?
If possible, pay the amount in full to keep your credit report free of dings. Paying less than owed is better than not at all, so it's good in that respect. But those details often show up on your credit report.
