Workers comp ended in 99 and i struggled to find a Job.

Hi my workers comp ended in 99 and i have struggled since to find and keep a job. I tried using voc rehab services and ended up caring for my med needs adult son. Recently wife divorced me and gave job to step son to get him out of the house. I can not work for local agencies due to lifting. I am currently in a Vermont state Voc Rehab but not much is happening. Thou i do have a 2 year degree in general studies it took me 11 years to get that. My old trucking job took most of my health. I can only do odd jobs that are low lifting. I usually have to take off 3 days to get over one day of work. Ive tried jobs working in public but can not tollerate people yelling at me. Its very difficult for me to concentrate and i get frusterated very easy. I am currently taking meds that help alot of the neck and shoulder pain. That helps but i had to back off the med to stay awake. I turned 49 in May and i have been told i should qualify for disablity at 50. Should i start applying for it now or try to find odd jobs and stay off it.
