Women's Independence - Gone Too Far, Just Right or Not Far Enough?

I'm curious to know opinions out there regarding woman's rights and whether or not you think that woman have perhaps, in some cases, taken "liberty" too far?

For instance, women had no real rights until very recently, given history altogehter.  So, at first, it was a truly remarkable thing to get voting rights and evenutally, equality in the work place.  Now, however, don't you think that many have taken it byond what was intended?

I.E.:  Sexual revolution gave us freedom over our bodies to act as men do...however, now we have even more frequent casual sex, STD instances are up, abortions are up and woman are more and more sexualized everywhere we look.  I'm not saying our place is only in the home and abiding ONLY what our husbands say without our opinion, but do you think we may have taken our independent role too far?  Perhaps, we're right back at the beginning...men want us physically, but are even less likely to fully commit...after all, why buy the cow when you get the milk for free, as the old saying goes.

Thoughts on this?  As a woman, I am curious to know the general consensus out there.

I have ALWAYS believed in equal pay for women that can do the same job!

I wish they'd hurry up and make it More equal!

As far as I'm concerned, there ain't nothin' much sexier than a woman that holds her ground.Wink

Sundog, you're killing me!  Tongue out  You have a very similar sense of humor to several of my friends.

As for rights - yes, equal pay for equal ability, absolutely.  But, I somehow think that the true message in all that has gotten lost.  Women don't have any more a sense of themselves now than they did then.  Either they're too busy proving themselves to be like men that they forget how to be women OR they're taking it to the extreme and lessening their own self worth with promiscuity (sp?) or reverting to same bad behaviors we've complained about in men for years.

I just think that perhaps we lost our balance somewhere and need to find it, again.  I firmly believe there's a way to maintain one's independence while still holding true to values and self respect.

Consider this;

The whole equal rights for women issue has still not been resolved and it will take time for it to balance out I think.

Just like the equal rights for people of color, whether it be red, brown, white, yellow or whatever color someone else happens to be, has still not been resolved.

Some people will still look at others differently for the color of their skin.

Hopefully we are on our way to better days.

We can only hope...

By the way, I hope I don't to seem too crass, but...

If the woman wants the top I say Ride em Cowgirl!!!

Yeeeeehaaaaa!!!!!!

Be Blessed.

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity (Love), I am become as a sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vauneth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seekth not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth.

And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is (Love) charity.

Mondabi,

Thank you for inviting me to this question. I for one believe that women's independence has gone too far. I believe in women's independence as far as equal pay for doing the same job. I also believe in women's rights. We have rights and freedom just as any other citizen and we should exercise them.

The problem I have is, that we have taken it too far. We want all the rights as men including being the man of the house. As I look around at some of our young daughters, they think that sex is the answer. They never stop to think about the respect that we once got from men. Nowadays, women are treated as sex objects with little or no respect. They pass their bodies around like a buffet dinner and they never give the consequences a second thought. There was a time when men opened doors, and pulled out chairs for young ladies. They stopped cursing when a young lady walked by. Now they just treat them like one of the boys. The ladies are out cursing the men.

Personally, I for one, enjoy it when a man reverence me and respects the fact that I am the weaker vessel. I love being showered with affection, gifts and love. I enjoy having a strong man by my side. I love to be respected and not thought of as a piece of meat but a lovely intelligent young lady. We want to act like one of the boys and in most instances left raising the kids on our own, being mother and father. A lot of our marriages don't work because we want to be equal to the husband.

There is a devine order that God gave from the beginning and until women can go back to that order and stop trying to rise above the man, you will continue to see, divorce, broken homes, unwanted pregnancies, disrespect from the men, and single parent families.

No disrespect to any of the women out there but this is just my humble opinion.

Be Blessed

Tippy - This was a great answer - thank you!  I, too, believe that we should restore a little more of things past regarding the roles of men vs. women.  Not say take away our rights or ability to be independent, but perhaps, if both sexes had more respect for themselves as well as one another, then maybe we would regain much of what seems to have been lost.  Thanks so much for taking the time to answer!
