Yesterday when Stacy and her mom spent the day together her mom drove and they stopped at the bank for Stacy to deposit a check.
Outside the bank was Stacy's friend (and neighbor) Barbara, Jackie and her sister Karen and Fran. Stacy knows Jackie and Karen because Stacy used to take the express bus in with them when the three of them worked in the City. Fran Stacy knows because of Barbara.
Stacy got out of the car and stopped to chat with them.
Stacy: "Hi"
They all said hello.
Jackie: "Stacy you got thinner, what is wrong"
That night Stacy called her friend Eva and told her what Jackie said and asked Eva "Was Jackie implying she never thought I was thin". Eva said: "She wasn't saying that at all. All Jackie meant is that you were always thin but now you are even thinner and she is concerned as to why you are thinner.

Then the next day around 5PM Barbara was so upset at what Jackie said to Stacy that Barbara called Stacy and the following conversation took place
Barbara: "How well do you know Jackie".
Stacy: "I used to ride in with her on the express bus a long time ago, and occasionally see her here at the bank"
Barbara: "So you don't know her well."
Stacy: "No"
Barbara: "Because I couldn't believe she said to you 'You got thinner what is wrong,', I mean if she knew you very well, that is different, but she hardly knows you"
After Stacy got off the phone with Barbara Stacy started to wonder why Barbara would even care about Jackie's remark to Stacy and how Barbara interpreted the remark Jackie made to Stacy.
MY QUESTION: What would you tell Stacy as to why Barbara would even care about Jackie's remark to Stacy and what would you tell Stacy as to how Barbara interpreted the remark Jackie made to Stacy
