Woman Selling Breast Milk

Hi,

Is this any worse than a sperm or egg bank? There are women who cannot suckle their babies but feel there is no substitute for woman's milk. This gives them a source of essential nutrients for their babies.

I don't think there is anything wrong with this, though I wonder how much of a profit she'll be able to make from this business.

Anyhow, as Brosen said, it may be useful for other mothers who aren't able to breast feed.

It is legitimate, however, if you are considering, look into having it screened.  It would be better to purchase from a legitimate milk bank.  Some of the hospitals use donated milk for their preemies when their own mother's milk is not in yet.  (takes about 3 days for mom's milk to come in, colostrum first.  Also, her body under stress, can't produce as much.)

Breast milk from donors is stored in human milk banks. At this time, there are only six human milk banks in the United States. While the number of infants and children who depend upon donor milk for health or survival is small, their numbers are greater than is the supply available from these milk banks.

Most parents of any intelligence would not buy breast milk from an unknown source.

In much of the human history aristocrats didn't breast feed at all, the babies were given to a wet nurse - a servant that had another baby and who breast feed the aristocrat baby.

I think that with the financial gap between rich and poor becoming larger all the time, we'll probably see more of this happening,  sort of a contemporary take on the wet nurse thing... 

I think that there's nothing wrong with it, as a business opportunity or a charity. A lot of women can't breast feed or don't want to and would love the accept this service.
