Wine and food

Is there a reputable chart for which wines go best with certain foods or dishes?  (I suppose that the chart wouldn't be comprehensive, because there are so many types of food and wine.  However, I imagine that there are guides to the basics of how to complement meals with wine.)

Life's too short for excessive compromise... maximize everything!

I agree with tip top that you answered teh question yourself.  I have made charts for people but in addition to the challenges you mentioned... wine is a matter of personal taste.  I know some people that only drink white wine with chicken while other only drink red wine with everything!  So while a chart may give you guidance, your palate will tell you what you enjoy!

Hi WenKroy,

You pretty much answered the question your self :)

I am going to give you some links to two of my favorite sites, both contain forums, where you can ask opinions on wine pairing or ask recommendations. The draw back is for every 10 responses you receive, you will have 10 different answers.

But hey, they are a lot of fun and you can try many different wines with your meal.

This last one is new to me, but they have a 10 rules of thumb for wine/food pairing.

Have fun!!!

Here's another article that you might want to check out

. It includes wine pairings and some general rules for fish, meat, etc. It's a great beginner's guide!
