Windows update and Microsoft Office update

Why are the websites for Windows update and Microsoft Office update separate? I thought I was updating my system religiously, but I just found out about Office update and it turns out that I missed 11 security updates during the last year!

If there was a central site that looks for updates for all MS products it would be so much better, why aren't they doing it?

Actually they have, its called 'Microsoft Update'. When you get the main page of Windows Update (the one with the custom and express buttons on it), there should be a link to upgrade to Microsoft Update.

Once you're using Microsoft Update, you'll get updates to Windows, Office and a few other MS products all through the same process.
