how is wheel track measured, is it the outer contact point of the spindle/hub where it meets the wheel, if it is the center line of the two tires, this would be changed by wheel offset,,,,,,,,,,

Wheel tracking or "set back" as its called by most alignment specialists is not affected by offset. It is determined by measuring from the centerline of the front wheels to the centerline of the rear wheels and is done with the assistance of an infrared device most commonly found on vehicle alignment equipment. A rough method is to use a tape measure but to be more precise alignment equipment is necessary. Tire wear and driveability would be affected if the set back of a vehicle was out of specifications and repair or replacement of components necessary or adjustmenet.
