Learning just like you.

It definitely depends on whether or not you want to just practice silently, or have one that actually sounds nice.  I assume you mean the latter

Rogue Starter Acoustic Baby Taylor

For a cheapie ($50 on sale), I recommend the Rogue Starter Acoustic. It is NOT a toy, though it is 3/4 size (I think), and for the money has a nice sound.  Looks nice too, and for the price, you won't be afraid of getting it banged up.

However, if you want a really nice travel guitar, I'd say get a Taylor Baby Dreadnought.  This 3/4 guitar comes in standard and mahogany top, and in left-handed configuration.  For $270, you can own a premium brand guitar which sounds great.  Highly recommended.

For a true "travel" guitar a Martin backpacker is the best, hands down.

Blackbird Rider Travel Guitar The Blackbird Rider Carbon fiber acoustic has the best tone from the ones I've tried. Its also the lightest and has a hollow neck so its physically balanced. Its also small so it fits on the plane. Being great doesn't come cheap though... blackbirdguitar.com

Have guitar will travel

When someone asks me for my opinion on the best, I have to be honest with them and remind them that you get what you pay for in most situations. I have always liked the way a smaller travel guitar has felt in my hands while playing - maybe because of my smaller hand size or maybe because it is much more convenient to have a smaller guitar on hand to take with you where ever you go.

My 1st was a Wechter travel guitar purchased for $199.00 - it was nice  - it was 3/4 scale - fun to play, but it lacked the volume I was looking for  - even plugged in, it did not have the sound I needed.

Next there was the Emerald x5 guitar for life - Avery nice travel guitar with a full scale neck. This was, in my opinion the best guitar for travel and for anything really at the time. It sounded OK plugged in and when it wasn't plugged it also lacked the warmth and filling sound for a small room - the finish, a high gloss was nice - not easily scratched as it was made from all carbon fiber - it was a tank really - I just wanted more warmth and a deeper sound from a travel guitar.

This brings me to the Composite Acoustics Cargo guitar - the most expensive, ranging from $999.00 to $1400.00 depending on the finish and the electronics - I do not yet own one, but this has become my quest - from all I have read and heard, this is probably the best all around travel guitar on the market. It also is only a 3/4 scale guitar, but as I said, that is comfortable to me. I like the RT finish which is a flat finish that protects and hides scatches - perfect for taking into the woods or just taking with you everywhere you go. I have heard samples of the guitar's sound on youtube - it boasts to sound like a full sized guitar - it seems to in the videos - I am somewhat partial as I own a CA GX guitar - I do also love the sound of carbon guitars - also have an Emerald x10 which is also a great guitar.

You can get a better sounding travel guitar for somewhat more money, but for a loud, great sounding travel guitar that can hold up to the the every day carrying around and playing, the CA Cargo Travel guitar is the best one out there. Let me just add that the action on a composite guitar ( especially one with the neck and body molded as one) will never change - the weather will not effect it - leave it in the car in the summer or in the winter and no change in the neck - no humidifyer needed - this is the best in my opinion.

That's sort of a loaded question where you have to consider a lot of things like price, musical taste, and what kind of travel.  You just looking at throwing it in a airplane bin or you backpacking with it?  Anyway, this article mentions the Composite Acoustics Cargo Travel guitar as being one of the best and you can read the Review.

Martin backpacker is also great, I prefer steel string version and washburn rover are also good options and a lot cheaper.
