Two cars were stopped in line to turn left; it was raining; traffic in front of them moved on, but they stayed in place. I kept slowing down, waiting for them to move, and when I braked I was going about 5mph when I hit the rear of the second car (car in front of me). The driver and I got out and examined both cars, as did her four passengers. We all saw no damage, so we didn't call the police. The car that was two cars ahead of me drove away after seeing he had no damage. The other car and myself drove off too. None of us exchanged information. The next stoplight, the girl got out and told me even though there was no damage, she'd like my information. I explained I was in a hurry, would my business card be sufficient? Yes. She hadn't given me her name when she drove off, but I did think to get her tag and make/model of car.
Yes, I heard from her insurance company. She was wanting to claim damage. I wasn't even sure it was an insurance company calling, so I refused any information, especially since the lady calling supplied me with no information at all.
I took my car to a Collision expert I'd had to use in the past when someone hit me and left the scene. They did a 3-page estimate. The person doing the estimate said I might want to buff out my front bumper = $21.40. ($1.40 is for tax)
I received a letter from her insurance company asking for my insurance information. Only information supplied me was the client's name and the claim number. The letter was obviously a copy of a letterhead placed on a sheet of paper and copied; no signature and only a team number given instead of a person's name as the contact.
I've contacted my agent, who says to wait and see if I hear anything further before answering.
What is normal procedure in processing a claim such as this?
Since I've already told them there was no damage, how would they go about attempting to prove any damage was done by my car?
Thank you.
