With the (right) driver behine a manual trans, I still think better efficiency will occur, but technology has caught up with this in many cases. Depends if you are driving a large heavy vehicle or a mini. i have experminted with the semi truck with an automatic and a manual and I got better fuel mileage with the manual. But for the general public an automatic may be the better way to go. There's still lots of variables to consider.
It probably depends on the driver! But manual is still a lot more fun to drive!
Stick shift is more efficient even with the new recent advances, the new technology is not groundbreaking and works surprisingly poorly. I test drive new hi grade cars like BMW Benz and Discos.
