Hey there! I was really surprised, too. I thought "What the hell, how to change the number of gnome workspaces? There are just 2!"

I searched a little bit and found out that you need to install the package called "compizconfig-settings-manager". Then you go to " System -> Preferences -> Advanced Desktop Effects Settings". There you are! You can configure whatever you want Compiz Fusion to do. Really great!
