What's The Best Free & Popular Blog Hosting Site, IYO?

I use OpenDiary.com for my personal diary site, but I'm looking for another FREE site more for actually blogging and talking about articles and opinions, not just personal life. I want it to be a popular site, more mainstream. I'm looking for a blog hosting site preferably with a lot of options to customize my blog, make it more my own. I already Googled and went to a lot of the popular sites, but I kinda want some opinions on where I should go. Thanks so much.

If you are looking for a popular blog hosting site with lots of options to customize then you should go with wordpress. You´ll find everything you need to get started, they currently offer over 60 themes for designing your blog (many , many more templates are available on the net), widgets, statistics, etc. It is easy to use, and you can pretty much do whatever you want with your blog.  I am going to to start my second blog there in the near future.
