Western formal dresses look too low-cut to me, but do YOU accept it?

It's about the cut of women's formal dresses that you see, say, at the Academy Award gala on TV. All of them seem too low-necked to me (I'm oriental.)  Do they look OK or look seemly from other people's eyes?

I'm not insulting.  I think that perhaps traditionally Western cultures have positively accepted women's low-neck dresses to be attractive, while Orientals have kind of prohibited them.  But not sure.  Do they appear elegant for you anyway?

As sakini says in the movie "TeaHouse of the August Moon": "Pornography is a matter of geography". The appropriate clothing for women (and men as well) are affected by norms of time and place, and since the Academy Award gala is "the natural arena" for actors and actresses, who are accustomed to expose themselves in front of public eyes - no wonder that in such festive evening they would even "excel".

It seems to me the idea of such glittery affairs as the Academy Awards Ceremony is less elegance and more catching the attention of the media, and getting those 15 minutes of glory. If people dressed in a more reserved fashion, there would (apparently) be less to report for the people watching at home.

I am also a little more conservative and find that on many occasions less is more.

It's an old fashion standard that somewhat formal, or dressy evening clothes usually have a lower cut neckline.....it's been going on for years......nothing new about it.....
