Western Medicine fails again. so why shouldn't doctors be forbidden to treat cancer?

Now Western medicine failed once again to cure someone using chemotherapy and Radiation. It almost never cures anyone and it failed with Ted Kennedy who probably had the best possible insurance anyone in this country could ask for.  So if western medicine fails about 90% of the time , if not more, to  cure cancer with chemotherapy and radiation, then don't you think our doctors should be forbidden to treat cancer patients with western medicine, when we know in advance it will probably not work and they'll just be making money off of patients while their treatments fail. Both the patients money and the doctors time should be spent in better places.  So shouldn't western cancer treatments be outlawed and forbidden?

Speaking as a guy who's lost both parents and one brother to cancer I feel well qualified to comment on this; the purpose of chemo is not to cure cancer, there is no such thing. Once you get it, it's only a matter of time so the question becomes, how much time? My mother had Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and 6 months of chemo bought her 5 years of life; my dad had lung cancer and radiation bought him an extra year; my brother had pancreatic cancer and chemo bought him 9 months. I wouldn't trade the additional time and I know each of them was thankful for it also. Think about it from that point of view and tell me you wouldn't want every last possible minute for yourself, your parents, your friends and etc.

Well the chemo and radiation as you say and observe work less effectively with many patients. But are there any other methods of medicatyion availbale other than that?I think not yet...there is still a lot of research going on and I am sure there will be something concrete soon.

Cool it's not that medicine failed, his tumor was not able to be treated. By that I mean nether chemo, radiation, or surgery could help. These are not cures they are forms of treatment that take a big toll on your body and add some time until your time comes to an end. I was a hospice nurse for years and my patients tought me a lot the one thing they all said was enough of trying to save my life let me live my life for as long as I can make every day the best of your life and don't be angery it brings you down. Have a brite out look it not as bad as you think. Connie

Your statement is so ludacrous it hardly deserves an answer, but here I go.

High grade brain malignancies have a dismal prognosis despite the best medicine and treatments available. It has nothing to do with insurance or money. One of the Beattles succumbed to Brain cancer, and there are many more famous people who have gone in the same manner.
