My daughter's wedding was canceled 6 weeks prior to the date. The bridesmaids had paid part of the cost of their dresses? I feel obligated to pay the balance. What should I do?

speak kindly, leave the rest to God.

I do think you should pay the balance out of fairness to them.  They would not have incurred that expense if not because of your daughter's wedding.

Who ever called off the wedding should be the one to pay off the cost of the dresses PLUS what ever they paid upfront. The attendents would not be out of any money and have the dresses if the wedding was still on.

Not to mention all the monies what were paid out for the deposits on the venue, invites, the flowers, the gown, and what ever else was ordered  A lot of places will not give you back your deposits. 

AGAIN WHO EVER CALLED OFF THE WEDDING SHOULD BE THE ONE TO PAY EVERYTHING.  And PAY BACK the other person.

I dont think so you have much choice than to pay the balance amount.
